Description
From clay to keepsake, a hands-on pottery experience in South London led by resident potter Max Adams.
Get ready to craft your own ceramic dinnerware pieces from start to finish. Guided by Max Adams and the Sofia Ceramics team, you will explore the same thoughtful approach to form, surface and function that shapes the tableware we create for restaurants, chefs and homes.
Max brings years of production pottery experience to the studio, combining traditional making techniques with the precision required for professional dinnerware. In this class, he will guide you through the process of making functional ceramic pieces by hand, helping you understand how clay becomes an object for the table.
Choose your favourite combination, such as a mug and plate or bowl and plate, and learn to create it from scratch with guidance from Max and the same expert makers who craft tableware for Ottolenghi, Kiln, Kolae, Rosewood Hotels, Jason Atherton Restaurants, OMA and more.
What To Expect:
- A 2.5-hour hands-on class in our Stockwell pottery studio with Max Adams
- Learn key hand-building techniques — no pottery wheel required
- Try jiggering on the wheel with Max’s guidance to understand how handmade plates are formed
- Trim, carve and texture your own functional ceramic pieces in leather-hard condition
- Paint or decorate an already bisque-fired plate
- Small class sizes, giving you plenty of personal attention from Max and the Sofia Ceramics team
- Your pieces will be fired, glazed and prepared for you within 4–6 weeks
Need to Know:
- No experience needed — perfect for beginners, creative friends or anyone curious about handmade tableware
- Clay can get messy, so please dress accordingly
- Great as a ceramic workshop gift, couples experience, creative date or solo studio session
- Can’t collect your finished piece? We can post it within the UK for an additional cost
This is pottery in London that feels less like a class and more like a slow art date with your hands, guided by Max’s knowledge of clay, tableware and studio production.
